Small Bowel and Colon Capsule Endoscopy

  • This method provides a convenient way to visualize the gastrointestinal tract from
the mouth to the anus. It is safe, easy, and painless, and it provides the doctor
with detailed information about the small and large intestine that cannot be
    reached through traditional endoscopy.
  • No anesthesia or hospital admission is required. You take one pill with 30 mm3 of
water and a detector is attached to your body. You then go home and return 8
hours later to deliver the detector. The capsule produces 50,000 high-quality
digital images during this time. The capsule is excreted in the feces within less than 24 hours of ingestion.
  • The endoscopic capsule is used in the following cases:

         Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding.
         Chronic Anemia of unknown cause.
Inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease.
        Small bowel vascular lesions.
        Malabsorption syndrome.
